What is Connecticut Creates?

Connecticut Creates is a conversation about people who are actively creating a new future for themselves and those around them. The group behind Connecticut Creates sees a future for our state that is designed by the people, for the people. We believe that by finding and supporting Connecticut residents who are actively taking charge of their future, we will generate more hope and possibility in our state and in each other.

What We're Doing

Starting the Conversation

We are raising the question of what it takes to actively create your own future, but we can't have this conversation in a bubble. For our first open forums, we've been to: Javapalooza, Middletown, The Grove in New Haven, Bean & Leaf in New London, Fat Cat Pie Co., in Norwalk, Downtown Yoga in Hartford, Melt in Bridgeport, Two Step Grille in Danbury, Willimantic Brewing Company in Willimantic and Bantam Bistro in Litchfield.

Putting Stories on the Map

We are in the process of identifying and profiling people (through video and on our blog) in business, government, education, nonprofit and arts/culture/tourism who are designing a new destiny for themselves and, in the process, having a positive impact on those around them. Do you know of someone we should talk to? Are you someone we should talk to? Contact us.

We are in the midst of producing videos to profile several amazing Connecticut residents: in the works are David Murphy of One Little Boat and Oil Drum Art, and Bun Lai of Miya's Sushi. We've published our first profile video of Kristin Brooks, Drug free Communities Grant Coordinator for the First Selectman's Task Force on Substance Abuse.

Eventually, stories of innovation and awesomeness will be pinpointed on an interactive map of Connecticut. Think your town is boring and has nothing to offer? That inspiration happens elsewhere? Think again!

Making Connections

If you see yourself in this conversation -- either as someone who is actively creating their own future, someone who wants to, or someone who is a champion for someone else who is too humble to step forward -- we want to hear from you.

We don't have all the answers for where this conversation will go or how we can help others deepen the impact they're already having. At this point, our goal is to widen the circle and broaden the conversation. What Connecticut Creates becomes is up to the people who make it a reality. That's us, and you.
